Rock Cliff 6th Ward
November 18, 2012

Thank others for their inspiring words…

Many of you may know my wife, Lisa, and may have thought she was a widow in the ward. Well, I am the other half that gets to visit with the 4th ward each week while she takes the punishment from Bryn and other children (I don’t want them to think they are always angels) during sacrament meeting. I want her to know how much I love her, and know of the sacrifice it is for her that I have the calling I do at this time. Thank you sweetheart, I am grateful to you for your service of being such a great mother, homemaker, tutor, friend, and on and on…

I wish to express my gratitude for the opportunity I have to speak to the R.C. 6th ward. It has been a marvelous blessing to work with the Stake Leaders, and to meet so many great members within the Stake boundaries. My stewardship consists of the Stake Relief Society, Provident Living or Welfare program (Deseret Industries, canning, etc.), and Employment. I appreciate the opportunities I have to serve and the blessing that come into my life by doing so. I recently attended a training/orientation meeting at the Harrisville D.I. and learned that the program offers more than just good, clean, affordable clothing and merchandise. At the D.I., they have programs for folks that are out of employment, who if follow 6 week program, are placed in great jobs. They even offer Technical school training for those who qualify which is paid for from the proceeds from Deseret Industries. Imagine that, a self-funded operation that offers so much to the community from donated items from that very same community. Not only does each D.I. offer a great opportunity for the community in which they reside, but clothing that is not sold will be shipped to the Humanitarian storehouse in Salt Lake City where the clothing is bundled into 1000lb bales and shipped all over the world for those in need. It’s another testimony builder for me to see such a well-organized effort that is fully self-sustained. People are in much need back East for clothing, materials, and supplies and a way to donate to an organization where you know 100% of your donation goes to those in need. If possible, donate what you can to the Humanitarian program. By doing so, you are serving your fellow man, and you will receive a blessing in your heart knowing and confirmed by the Holy Ghost that you have served your Lord as stated in Mathew 25:40 - And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

I wish to share a thought, or even a prayer, from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "For each new morning with its light, For rest and shelter of the night, For health and food, for love and friends, For everything Thy goodness sends."-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Taking a scientific look at Gratitude-
Melanie Greenberg has her Ph.D. in Psychology has stated this of Gratitude:

Experiencing and expressing gratitude is an important part of any spiritual practice.  It opens the heart and activates positive emotion centers in the brain.  Regular practice of gratitude can change the way our brain neurons fire into more positive automatic patterns. The positive emotions we evoke can soothe distress and broaden our thinking patterns so we develop a larger and more expansive view of our lives.  Gratitude is an emotion of connectedness, which reminds us we are part of a larger universe with all living things. Below are some of my favorite quotes about gratitude to help inspire you and deepen your thinking about finding an enduring place for gratitude in your own life.Bottom of Form Gratitude Quotes
