Going to State
Nothing feels better than when you set a goal that you want to accomplish one day and that one day comes quicker than you thought it would. Well the day our team made it to state to be in the Final Four was the day I achieved one of my goals that I had set for myself.
The day before our game in the Final Four our coach Brian Moon a hefty guy with a full head of grey hair, buzz cut, and a drill sergeant attitude set a practice at 6 a.m. Six o’clock rolls around and I hear this ear splitting, aggravating noise and I remember I had set my alarm clock, so I’m slapping everything on my desk knocking over everything but the alarm clock. I throw my jersey on and start to head out the door when I smell this nose burning smell. I pause for a minute and sniff around and realize its my jersey. It smells like sewer water that had been poured over garbage. I didn’t have time to wash it so I had to go to practice smelling like a zoo. I get to practice and that’s when I realize how early it really is. It’s still dark outside, birds aren’t even up chirping yet it’s so dark. After noticing how early our coach had us up I headed to the gym. I opened the door and the light immediately blinded me. It was like heaven had opened up or something, but heaven had nothing to do with the hell we were about to go through. The whole team finally shows up and coach sits us down and begins to talk to us about the game. The look on his face looked like he was sad and excited at the same time, you could tell this was serious because everything was silent in the gym. All you could hear was the buzzing of the lights. After the serious talking it was practice time. Coach Moon had us do suicides first and everyone’s head dropped, he saw that and yelled out in his drill sergeant voice that we had to do twice as much for complaining.... [continues]
