Godfather Death
Godfather Death This short story was gave a very interesting perspective because it seemed more fiction than Story of an Hour. The setting of the story seems to be from middle age but also has a fantasy side to the story but darker. I was very surprised at how the poor man saw both the Lord God, Devil, and Death. It showed that the poor man wasn’t religious and in his perspective he did not see God as a savior. He only saw that God gives to the rich and let the poor starve by not interfering with humans. With the devil I understand his description but the way he describes death is what surprised me the most. To my perspective, instinctively I fear death. I love the luxury of life too much that I fear death when it comes, so I never thought about how death doesn’t discriminate between rich and poor at all. The fact that the poor man does shows me that he was in hardship that causes him to see things differently and more open-minded than I am. I am not too sure about how I would classify the doctor. I don’t think he is a villain but I don’t really think he is a hero as well. Sure he saved lives because of death but I also feel that the doctor only started to go against death because of his own desires. He only saved the King because of the recognition he would get and the King’s daughter because of her beauty and the act that he would be king. He believed that he would be able to get away with going against death because death was his godfather but I just think that the doctor was spoiled and arrogant. This story reminds me that we shouldn’t take things for granted and don’t try to get more than what we can afford.

There are many ethical problems and issues raised by this novel. First of all, the novel put to light Dr. Mathis’s fraud when he realized that he was being framed. How could one view this action? Is it ethically correct to do this? Dr. Mathis was quite certain in having no remorse for doing such a thing, for he believed it did not raise any direct ethical or moral issues. He even believed this did not cause a violation to the Hippocratic Oath. For him, the principle of non-maleficence applied because he could no longer hurt the patient, Mr. Swensen since he was already dead. By doing the fraud, he only corrected an injustice done to him since he was being framed. But, can this be considered enough? By following Kantian ethics and the principles of deontology,…

The Godfather is an insightful sociological study of violence, power, honor and obligation, corruption, justice and crime in America. Part I of The Godfather Trilogy centers on the Corleone crime "family" in the boroughs of New York City in the mid 1940s, dominated at first by the aging godfather/patriarch "Don" Vito Corleone. As a turn-of-the-century Silician immigrant, he is the head of one of the five Italian-American "families" that operates a crime syndicate. The 'honorable' crime "family," working outside the system due to exclusion by social prejudice, serves as a metaphor for the way business (the pursuit of the American dream) is conducted in capitalistic, profit-making corporations and governmental circles.…

In his film The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola creates a narrative structure, very similar to that seen in Classic Hollywood cinema. Events in the film unfold chronologically, and cause and effect ultimately help shape the narrative. The Godfather’s long narrative span, covers a very significant time in American history, and centers around the idiosyncrasy of family. The film is told entirely within the closed world of the Corleone family, which creates sympathy for the main characters, who otherwise would be considered evil. Coppola draws the audience into the Godfather’s world by divulging into each of the characters personalities, following them through every significant change and role reversal.…

As I read this story over and over, I came to realize that maybe the point of this story is to tell us that God will always be there to guide us through. I believe that he will bless us as we trust in him, and following our hearts to serve him. We may be given obstacles, and we may be pushed to the limit, but God will never let us down. But do we really know that he won’t let us down? Sometimes we think that he isn’t even there. I know sometimes I think he isn’t there, because why would he let so many bad things happen? Why couldn’t he just prevent it all? I think we forget that the devil has a part of our lives too. But we can’t let him get to us, and that is how we can show God that we believe in him, that we trust him to help us.…

The story in and of itself is a paradox. These seemingly decent men are survivors of a terrible war that has left the world dark and dreary. Land and sky meld together and winds howl. The men cannot get enough of the books and music that Doctor Jenkins has managed to save, but are content to savour them once a week. Even though they have survived the violence that the world has so recently gone through, the Doctor is still willing to kill for these few prized possessions, “…he could feel with his hands, the comfortable piece of lead pipe.” His intended actions seem to make sense, although the violence is what got them there in the first place.…

God has become angry with his people. He complains in the fifteenth century English play Everyman about humans and their obsession with material items, riches, and wealth. Men and women, he feels, have taken for granted their blessings. God wants to reprimand Everyman for his sinful life and sends Death to summon him. At the beginning of the allegorical work where figures and actions symbolize general truths, a messenger shares God’s concerns. The messenger tells the audience to watch and listen closely to the morality play so they can learn a lesson about life. Everyman fears Death, and he desires to know what one must do to earn salvation and enter heaven. The writer then implies that the way to achieve salvation is by doing good works. Through positive deeds, a man has the capability of enjoying communion with Christ (McRae 306-307).…
