What does Diversity and Multiculturalism mean to me? I believe that diversity has become so much more than just the basic qualities of race or gender. It now includes all qualities that make everyone unique, as individuals or as part of a larger group. It is also the acceptance, respect, and understanding of these unique qualities that makes diversity work in a given society. Multiculturalism is the system that is centered around the respect for and the promotion of ethnic and or gender diversity in the society. Multiculturalism is the status of several different ethnic, racial, religious or cultural groups co-existing in the same society. Today, in the U.S. we already live in a diverse, multicultural world, where popular culture has introduced us to others’ foods, music, histories, customs, and more. Moreover, the predictions that a multiplicity of infusions from culture to culture will continue unabated – and that we must develop a respect for others if we are to be active, engaged participants in the new world order (Green, 1998).…

The definition of multiculturalism in the Webster 's Dictionary is: "of or relating to a social or educational theory that encourages interest in many cultures within a society rather than in only a mainstream culture" (1984). There are many reasons why multiculturalism should be integrated into the curriculum of America 's schools. Multicultural education is an idea that seeks to develop the same opportunities for all students; it is not geared solely for the benefit of those from different racial, ethnic, and social-class groups, but it is also designed to help the middle to upper class white Americans (Banks, n.d.). The goal of multicultural education is to restructure schools, so that all students will achieve the knowledge, proper outlook, and abilities required to function in a diverse nation and world (Banks, 1993). It is important for multicultural education to permeate the curriculum in all grades and aspects of the educational system.…

Secularisation refers to the decline in religious beliefs, practices, power and commitment. Depending on the definition of religion, it can be argued that Modern European societies have undergone a secularisation process. It is difficult to examine to a certain extent how religious people were before and how religious they are in today’s society. The view that secularisation has been a feature of only Modern European societies are arguable as there are many different types and definitions of religion, and also it does not take into account secularisation on a more global scale.…

Multiculturalism to me is defined as abundant amounts of cultures in one area. Or it is simply a society where many different types of people with diverse cultural backgrounds, religion, and traditional values and beliefs cohabit peacefully with one another. It is the unification of diverse cultures, multilingual talents, and the ability to accept one another. (Although this may not actually happen)…

The term refers to the existence and acceptance of multiple cultural traditions within the society. “One justification for multiculturalism arises out of the communitarian critique of liberalism. Liberals are ethical individualists; they insist that individuals should be free to choose and pursue their own conceptions of the good life. They give primacy to individual rights and liberties over community life and collective goods.” (Song, 2010) this quote leads me to believe that people who are a part of a minority ethnicity within a society are entitled to practice aspects of their culture as they please without running the risk of experiencing inequality within certain spheres of the society such as education, politics and work.…

Most people in the world these days believe that there is a higher being out there. Whether, they call him God or just an entity. It’s almost impossible not to believe in something higher than yourself. If you are an atheist, I still consider that a religion, but its different in that you refuse to believe in God. I do believe that there is a God, and he is out there waiting for you to come to him and have a relationship with him. I came to this realization just quicker than most people. I will discuss how I came to find my way to Christ, how there is a God out there, and how death is not the end.…
