COMPETENCY GOAL 1
To establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and responsive learning environment.
Safe   I provide a safe environment I ensure prevention and reduction of injuries to children while they are in my care. I believe that supervising children at all times can avoid injuries that are caused by hazards that are in the environment that sometimes children are not aware of.   For example I use a daily checklist to ensure there is not outside or inside hazards that can cause injury to my classroom children.   I do this every morning before the children start arriving to the center.   Some items I check for is hazardous toys, sharp corners, hazardous water sources, electrical plugs, and fire evacuation routes.   I also ensure that there are not hazardous cleaning liquids that are in the reach of children.
Healthy I provide a healthy environment by starting with me.   I believe that in order to offer a healthy environment, one self needs to be healthy to begin with.   I provide my center with a yearly health exam and up to date immunization record of myself.   With that said, I ensure the children under my care also provide an immunization record.   I also avoid the spread of germs by making sure that my classroom is disinfected daily.   Some examples are toys, doors handles, mats, restrooms, tables, chairs, floors, and changing tables.   Also washing hands before and after eating and outside play can promote a healthy environment.   I also enforce the idea that children need to brush their teeth after they eat to help them keep their teeth healthy.   Self help habits is what I try to develop in all my children habits because it will help them also provide a healthy environment when they are older.
Learning Environment I provide a learning environment to my children by providing developmentally appropriate practices.   I believe that by observing each child and picking out their strong and weak skills can help me better educate them. Some habits I have are not... [continues]
