Go Put Your Strengths to Work
The book, Go Put Your Strengths to Work, is a road map to show you how to build your life around your strengths. This is easier said than done as it says in the movie, only two of ten people say they are able to play to their strengths in their profession. The book describes how in six steps you can start to take stock in your strengths, how to take control of your time and how to gradually make the two converge. The first step in this journey is busting the myths. The myths we have been taught throughout our lives begin with “as you grow your personality changes. According to the polls, sixty-six percent of us believe this to be true. A good example of this being taught was given in the book as a reference to the story a Christmas carol, and how scrooge changes from an angry man to a compassionate one. I fall into the category of people that believe that you change with time. I have always felt that if you work hard at it you can change undesirable attributes of your personality, according to the research done the truth is “as you grow you become more of who you already are.” After reading this and thinking about it I came to the conclusion that I more now like I was at eight years old, I’ more stubborn than I was also I hate to lose, I’m still very competitive and as you know a procrastinator. Know if you look at my permanent record, it will say the same thing only with needs improvement next to it. The next myth they tackle is the one that says, “You will grow the most in the area of greatest weakness.” Today after reading this section and watching the video, I had a parent teacher conference for my six-year-old daughter Samaiya. This conference really made the point drive home. My daughter is very bright, she reads at a very high level.
