Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are one of the most controversial, but important issues in the world. GMOs are organisms where the genetic material has been changed for improving the product quality and producing it faster. GMOs are resistant to disease, they can help humans suffering from famine, and produce more crops.It is not a secret that GMO-ed foods have spread out quickly to the whole world. If the generation of GMOs cannot be stopped, we should know why it is harmful to our health and how we can prevent it.GMOs can cause huge health risks, enormous destruction of the environment,and many are now resistant to pesticides. Finally, to prevent GMOs, they should be labeled and people should recognize how dangerous GMOs are for us.
First of all, GMOs will not be ensured food security unlike proven organic foods which has been eaten for most of human existence.Regardless of the dangers, the foods have still been on our table without authorization. No one can assure that GMOs’ side effects won’t be long-term and continuous. Proving safety is impossible with the current technology we have.Dr. Schubert, a scientific expert says, “If there are problems, we will probably never know because the cause will not be traceable and many diseases take a very long time to develop.” We really will never know the long term effects GMOS have.Also, scientists claim that GMO foods can have medical benefits, by injecting a particular gene or vaccine into it. However, GMOs are only a temporary solution, they are not the solution for famine and medical benefits. But, their disadvantages cancel out their own advantages.
