Global warming, due to human activity is not occurring.

Global warming is the increase of the average temperature of the Earth’s surface and has become a controversial and complicated issue facing scientists and politicians today. Many scientists and writers point to human activity being the main contributor to global warming.

I disagree with the statement that global warming is not occurring and believe that global warming, due to human activity is actually occurring.

Human activities have led to a large increase in heat-trapping gases such as methane, nitrous oxide, carbon, and halocarbon. These gases absorb the heat radiated from Earth’s surface and lower atmosphere while radiating most of the energy back toward the surface. The humane activities such as transportation, mining, agriculture, fossil fuel burning, and many others have increased the concentration of these gases. The result is a thick blanket in the atmosphere of these “heat trapping gases in Earth’s atmosphere, causing surface temperature to rise.”

Deforestation worldwide is caused by the growing demand for forest products and it is estimated that we are losing over nine million hectares per year. Trees help to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis but cutting down forests declines this cycle resulting in the atmosphere getting high concentrations of carbon dioxide. This higher concentration acts as a barrier resulting in higher temperatures, weather changes, ice cover, and sea levels.

Emissions from air pollutants, such as sulfates act as a cooling effect as they reflect the sunlight back into space. Though sulfate forms naturally, the aerosol effect creates a cooling and warming over different parts of the world, mainly...
