Global Warming: A Real Threat?
Looking at society’s perception on the warming climate trend and its effects on the planet and daily life.

Abstract:
One of the greatest changes influencing people in the twenty-first century is the growing threat of global warming.   Global warming is the escalating of the Earth’s natural greenhouse effect increasing air temperatures due to a build up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere as a result of anthropogenic activity. (Christopherson, Byrne)   The 2001 IPCC Third Assessment Report, using General Circulation Model forecasting, predicted warming trend averages for the 21st century of a high of 5.8°C, a middle of 3.6°C, and a low of 1.4°C. (IPCC Third Assessment Report).   The phenomenon of a warming climate due to anthropogenic causes is changing our society and altering people’s everyday lives.   The cry from the scientific community warning of the effects of a warming climate has changed how people view their daily choices regarding energy, water, and food consumption.   The predicted increase in temperature is anticipated to cause dramatic changes in our food supply, promote migration of disease-carrying insects into densely populated regions, and result in urban congestion as coastal habitats become inundated and populations are forced to move inland.   People are asking themselves how they and their community fit into the equation of combating global warming and its consequences.   One of the greatest challenges to people is defining where their government’s, businesses’, and their own responsibilities lie.
