“Remember the first time you went to a show and saw your favorite band. You wore their shirt, and sang every word. You didn't know anything about scene politics, haircuts, or what was cool. All you knew was that this music made you feel different from anyone you shared a locker with. Someone finally understood you. This is what music is about." Gerard Way, lead singer of My Chemical Romance, my favorite band, said this, and I agree with him. There's absolutely nothing like going to a live concert and seeing the person you most admire and respect. You can put up as many posters and buy as many songs as you want and blast them at full volume, but nothing can prepare you for a live performance. I remember bugging my parents for weeks. Anytime a moment popped up, I would casually cough out “MCR”. I was playing on the computer one of those days when Mom snuck up behind me and held a piece of paper in front of my face. At first I couldn't figure out what it was, but then I noticed on the top, “Honda Civic Tour with Blink-182, featuring My Chemical Romance and Matt and Kim”. I would have jumped up and started screaming if I hadn't been put into a state of shock. I was going to see my favorite band! The weeks passed by in a blur and soon my parents and I were heading for Virginia Beach, where the concert would be held. The concert was on a Sunday, but we arrived on the Friday before. On Sunday we slept in late and stayed near the hotel. I armored up in my Black Parade jacket and we headed for dinner. I was so nervous I couldn't even touch the food. We got in the car and started going towards the concert. I bounced in the backseat as we got closer and a line of cars began to weave into a huge parking lot. A slow drizzle began as we parked and started heading to the outdoor amphitheater. The crunch of the gravel and the sound of music only heightened my excitement. I swear we walked at least a mile before we got to the ticket people....
