BY: Aljon Tuyor Melchiville Joseal Diana Cuanan Elaine Castillo Mia Camille Decoy Lessette Ivan Rosas

Introduction Toxic chemical is any substance which may be harmful to the environment or hazardous to your health if inhaled ingested or absorbed through the skin. Organic pesticides are just as strong as other forms of insect and weed control. The only difference between chemical pesticides and organic pesticides is the fact that organic pesticides are made from naturally occurring ingredients, which do not harm innocent bystanders while eliminating weeds and pesky insects.
These natural ingredients that are natural insect killers include fruit based oils and extracts, rosemary oils, clove oils, and cinnamon oils (just to name a few).
Your garden can come under attack from wasps, ants, spiders, crickets, fungus, and other harmful insects or weeds, which means there is a lot working against your garden. Therefore, choosing the right control method (like organic pest control) is extremely vital.
Using safe pesticides is an important way to protect your garden from pests, but not negatively affect them at the same time. EcoSMART and other brands of organic pesticides only target pests not innocent bystanders. For instance, EcoSMART’s organic wasp killer targets the octopamine receptor (an insect’s version of adrenaline) in insects.
Typically organic products (like organic food) are more expensive than conventional items, but this is no longer the case when it comes to affordable organic pesticides. With technology becoming more and more advance every day, natural resources are becoming more easily accessible. We can grow healthful food without depending too much on toxic chemicals and chemical fertilizers with NATURAL ORGANIC and BIOLOGICAL FARMING systems. The knowledge and simple but practical

Anyone who shops for groceries has to make decisions on what food to buy and they usually do not think about where the food is coming from. When it comes to healthier food choices, most of the time these are being shipped from a farm. However, not all farming can benefit the consumer purchasing their products. One of the biggest debates is on modern farming and the usage of things such as chemicals and hormones to produce quality agriculture and crops. Many are concerned of how these treatments may affect their health. A solution to this issue would be for farms to switch over to organic farming. Organic farming is focused on using natural methods for fertilizer and pesticides, soil regeneration, water conservation, animal welfare, and farming in an environmentally and socially responsible way. Consumers should consider purchasing organic farmed foods because it’s nutritious, free of toxic chemicals, and affordable.…

In today’s society you walk into a grocery store and you always have the option of organic or non organic food. There are even grocery stores dedicated to organic foods like Trader Joe’s, Sprouts and Whole Food market. I personally have gone organic and will never go back to eating or drinking non organic food. Organic food may be pricey but less hormones, less cow puss and blood in your milk, and less pesticides. The controversies about organic food vs non organic food is it worth it? My answer is 100 percent yes organic is the way to go. The fruits and vegetables you get at a normal grocery store that are non organic have several pesticides on it. According to the daily green, ‘ eating organic means avoiding the pesticide residue left on foods.” Though there are mixed reviews on if consuming pesticides hurt your immune system, pregnant women are taking the cautionary steps on making sure their future child will be born healthy and not be exposed to pesticides at an early age. On the Dirty Dozen list, apples are the number 1 food source of 2011, with over 40 known pesticides in just 1 apple. Not surprisingly, pesticide residue is also found in apple juice and apple sauce, making all apple products smart foods to buy organic. Strawberries have over 60 pesticides on it, so while you “wash” your strawberries remember you are eating pesticide residue remains on those strawberries you bought at the food market. 93% of Americans tested by the CDC had metabolites of chlorpyrifos…

Most of the pest control companies are known to use toxic, synthetic, and chemically-based pesticides. These types of pesticides have been known to be the most effective in the extermination of pests. However, they are not safe for people or the environment. The most common chemical used in pest control is Diazinon. Diazinon is used for household pests inside the home, or outside on the lawn. It kills a variety of insects and is classified as an acute and chronic health hazard. Diazinon is very toxic to wildlife and can be fatal if…

Most organic food cost more than conventional food products. Higher prices are due to more expensive farming practices and more strict government regulations. Because organic farmers don't use herbicides or pesticides, many tools that control weeds and pests use more labor and man power. Conventionally grown food may be more cost effective, especially when you’re on a budget, but remember ‘you always get what you pay for’.…

Amanda, I most definitely agree, our fruits and vegetable crops must grow without the synthetic pesticides. We all believe that organic is always the best choice because it is better for our health, the importance of our environment, and the people who grow our food. I read that the hazard risk from pesticides on the traditional or regular food of produce fluctuates from very low to very high depending on the type of produce and what country where it’s grown. Learning from our assignments about ecology and how necessary it is to understand how living things interact with each other as well as with nonliving elements gave me a better perspective and understanding life purpose. Watching the movie “King Corn,” gave me a better view about the synthetic…

While this appears to be the correct definition as most people believe it is there is one major fallacy with this definition. The statement that “farmers are not allowed to use synthetic pesticides” is not only completely false but misleads anyone who reads this article. The fact of the matter is that the United States government regulates and controls how organic food is grown. Under the National Organic Program and the Code of Regulations in section §205.601 titled Synthetic substances allowed for use in organic crop production, (United States) it clearly states which synthetic chemicals are allowed to be used. This section clearly tells you how those chemicals are allowed to be used and under what conditions they are allowed to be used while preparing your land, the maintenance of your land, the preparation of your seeds, the production of your crops, and maintenance of your crops. This one section alone, which is federal law, completely refutes everyone’s claim that organic food is pesticide free whether it is synthetic or organic.…

In order to be labeled “organic” the farmer who grew it used renewable resources and conservation of soil and water methods. Also, organic farmers do not use conventional pesticides or weed killers, which may contain synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge. According to Fisher, "Sewage sludge from municipalities' waste may contain heavy metals and toxins . . .” (1). Rather, organic farmers use sophisticated crop rotations, spread mulch and manure, and even hand pull weeds to keep them away. Instead of applying pesticides, they use beneficial insects and birds or traps to keep pests from harming the crop.…

Chemical pesticides and herbicides are an example of dangerous synthetic chemicals used around the world. Chemical pesticides are synthetic chemicals used to kill and prevent pests from impeding agriculture. For example, toxaphene is a synthetic organic insecticide made by the chlorination of camphene, a toxic fuel known for almost being insoluble in water (http://www.epa.gov). Toxaphene contains over 670 chemicals and does not occur naturally (http://www.aadnc-aandc.gc.ca). Improper irrigation or bad weather can cause pesticide run-off. Run-off from pesticides can ruin river ecosystems, damage groundwater and contaminate soil leaving fertile land dry, unusable, and acidic. The production of chemical pesticides also releases greenhouse gases such as CO2 and SO2. Overall, chemical pesticides and herbicides are unnatural pest control devices and they destroy the environment.…
