Germany and Father Struggle
Dehumanization has been a problem in the world since the beginning of man. In the story Night, Elie and his father struggle for humanity. The story has taken place during World war ll. Ellie and his father fight to stay alive and don't know if their last days will be at home. Starving, dehydration, fire, and dehumanization become a different meaning in a persons head after reading this story. People are inhumane to other people because of jealousy and power.
Elie and his family were sent to a concentration camp, They were shipped by a cart with a lot of other people so it was very hot."After two days of traveling, we began to be tortured by thirst. Then the heat became unbearable"(21). The Germans Knew that the cart was hot and they knew that there was no water because they took all of their stuff before they enter the cart. The Germans were making the people suffer before they even got to a concentration camp.
After Elie and his family get to the first concentration they are separated. The men on one side and women and children on the other. Elie had to lie to be with his dad. Elie and his father knew that the women and children are going to the crematorium. The Germans are tearing the Jews apart by not only making them suffer but they also strike the in the heart. “ I became A-7713. After that I had no other name.” (39) They are not even calling the Jews by their names. They are making them the lowest of the low. They are marking them by putting a tattoo on them and then they are known by that marking for the rest of their time in the concentration camp.
"We were given no food. We lived on snow; it took the place of bread... It never ceased snowing. All through these days and nights we stayed crouching, one on top of the other, never speaking a word. We were no more than frozen bodies" (94-95)(not sure how to word this paragraph yet)
The dehumanization in the world is not necessary. People need to understand that peoples lives aren't going
