German Cinema History

1895 the brothers Skladanowsky presented the first silent movie in the Berliner Wintergarten. With this event a new direction of art was born, also in Germany. Until a n own and independent movie language was developed, the movie pioneers used theater engineering and stage art to complete their first movies. First movies with artistic ambitions was created in the german empire. The new method of the kinematograph was initially an attraction for the high society. But the novelty didn´t last so long. Irrelevent short movies was shown on every fair for workers and bourgeois. To   inspire the audience for the cinema, the producers treid to apell on the sensationalism of the viewer. For example a movie of Joseph Delmont with wild predators which achieved worldwide publicity.

2012 the worldwide first and biggest movieset celebrate its 100-year existence. Hollywood was in this time in the Berlin suburb Neubabelsberg. The first movie which was produced in the glassy studio was a box office success and a big number in the german silent movie industry. The death dance.
Today 80 percent of the german movie production is realized in Babelsberg or with its support.

The german movie economie erased strongly from the first worldwar. Already in 1919 the german flim production was ready for its altitude flight. 500 movies was accomplished in this year. Despite the dominating poverty and inflation the 3000 german cinemas recorded over 350 million visitors. Because of that the main part of the german filmindustry was commercial orientated. Entertainment, action and criminal movies was produced constantly. On the historical point of view is just a little part of the production revenue important which should adequated the artistical aesthetical and sociopolitical demands. Movies which can be sorted as clarification films, films about the new objectivity, Kammerspielfilm, and expressionistical films nowadays.
