George Strait
When the name George Strait comes to mind what more could be said? This American country music icon has won a tremendous amount of awards and is the first artist in history to have entered the Top Ten Billboard Chart for over thirty consecutive years. He is known for his “twang” and his 2008 single of the year, “I saw God today”. George Strait has been around since 1952 and has earned the title “The King of Country”. He who serves as a living legend has been awarded Artist of the Decade by The Academy of Country Music. Considering Strait’s life time expansion he has seen the world grow and deteriorate in many abstract ways. “By the 1990s, Strait had influenced a new breed of performers while continuing his own successes, having charted upwards of 20 number-one hits including "Heartland" and "Blue Clear Sky". Strait was born in Poteet, Texas. His mother Doris Couser Strait and father John Bryan Strait were divorced when George was still a child. George had two siblings, a brother named John Jr. and a sister named Pency whom was raised by her mother. George lived on a ranch and worked there on the weekends and during the summer. He attended Pearsall High School. There he met his high school sweetheart who is now his former wife, Norma Strait. They got married on December 4, 1971 in Mexico, but then decided to restate their vows in their hometown, Pearsall, Texas. Even during high school George loved performing in his rock and roll garage band, which then led him to performing in a band called “Rambling Country” while still serving in the U.S army. While the band was off base they were called, “Santee”. Almost a year after their marriage, George and Norma had their first child, Jenifer on October 6, 1972. H e went to South West Texas University and studied Agriculture; there he also started his own band, “Ace in the Hole.” They recorded a few songs, but never became very popular. As...
