Moral Issues Project- Genetic Engineering and Cloning
I am going to do the “Genetic Engineering and Cloning” topic. This topic is very important for the futuristic generations who are going to benefit from this or not. I feel writing about this moral issue would highlight the debateable issues as well as providing a more in-depth understanding to those who have little knowledge about the topic.
The key thing that motivated me to write about this topic is because I have read two fictional books about the subject, which provide a further insight to the benefits and dangers of genetic engineering. For many years, humans have discovered the science of genetics and how we can modify a gene of a plant, to make it do certain things it could not do before. For example, we could maybe change the genes to make the plant taller and more able to absorb the sun’s rays which aid in the process of photosynthesis. This leads to the plant surviving longer than others and may produce copious amounts in reproduction. This is what we can do when we modify just one gene- we can make the survival rate of a plant increase.
The first thing I when trying to start the research project efficiently was to relate to my fiction books, which provide a keen understanding of the project. It had useful information I would need to lay the foundations of a successful project. Then, I searched until I found a non-fiction book that provided information on genes and the discovery of genetics. This was my first building block. When I had successfully read through the information, I went on the internet to find out more. The sections of the project are:
  1. Introduction
  2. Arguments for and against genetic engineering
  3. Religious View- how it relates to religious teachings
  4. Short survey
  5. Conclusion and Evaluation- what I think.
  6. Bibliography- the sources of my work.
