God and Abram
To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” (Genesis 3:16)
In the scripture God dictated a punishment to the women. At the moment of laboring a child the women are to suffer a lot of pain. Also we can see how God sentenced the women to submit to their men. We can interpret that at the moment God was really mad at the women. God curses the women for not obeying his command. She did what she wanted to do and did not follow God’s commands.
“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” (Genesis 6:1-3)
The meaning of this verse is that the sons of God are angels. They noticed how beautiful the women were and they choose the more attractive ones; they took them as their wives. We can see how women are a temptation to men, because even the angels could not resist to the beauty of women. Sometimes people sin against God without thinking of the consequences. The result of these bad decisions was that God made their days of life shorter and God spirit would not remain with man continually.
“Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be blessing. I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12: 1-3)
The call to Abram is a promise of his obedience. God promise to Abram a new land for his descendants and God will show him the way. God gave Abram a blessing promise and he will curse those who do not like Abram. The same way that Abram was called to

The very creation of women was a punishment to mankind. Out of Zeus' anger toward Prometheus, came Pandora, the first woman. Hesiod explains the thoughts of immortal gods and mortal men as they first glanced at the beautiful creation as “sheer deception, irresistible to men. / From her is the race of female women, / The deadly race and population of women, / A great infestation among mortal men.” (373-376) The only reason women live in this world is because of the sins of one male figure. Women have no other purpose in Hesiod’s words than to be the bad that upsets the good in the world.…

Abraham was given the promise that he was ‘blessed to be a blessing’ (Genesis 12:1-3). While he never saw the fulfilment of this promise Abraham is remembered throughout history as the man who ‘believed God and it was reckoned to him as righteousness’ (Romans 4:3). The Psalmist tells us that all people are meant to ‘be glad and sing for joy’ as they praise God (Psalm 67). It was God’s intention that through His people God’s ‘way may be known on earth’. Even the dispersion (Diaspora) of Jews through the exile to Babylon and subsequent return of some, God used to spread His message throughout the rising Greek and later Roman Empires that stretched to the extremities of…

The figurative language in this verse represents a 3 1/2 year time frame. We are told in verse 17 of that same chapter that Satan is furious, because he is unable to attack these people. So, He goes and makes war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments, and have the testimony of Jesus. Prophetically, the woman represents the raptured church that is being protected under the huppah of heaven, while those on the Earth are going through the Tribulation. The 3 1/2 year time frame marks the middle of the Tribulation period when the antichrist will break the false peace that he made with Israel, and he will demand to be worshiped. The situation on Earth will be terrible and unimaginable at this time for those who made late decisions, and missed the boat, so to…

In Genesis 3:16-20 God gives separate consequences to man and woman. For women God increased pain during child birth and also that women cannot have power over their husbands. This also tells us that women will desire to be in a man’s position but will never acquire it because Eve made the decision of deceiving Adam into eating the apple. For man God cursed the ground from which he will have to work very hard to gain food. God also cursed the ground with weeds and thorns which kill other plants and make it even harder to grow food. God used a sense of irony with the last curse for man. He first explained that man came from the ground and that man will have to work the ground his whole life to keep him and his family alive until the man dies returning to the ground.…

For the past two-thousand years, the Book of Genesis has served as work of literature to the western civilization. Whether people believed in the Bible or not, the Book of Genesis tell stories they talk about having good morals, teaching live-learned lessons and overall it gives a glimpse of how the first human being acted when the world was developing and how they handle problems and situations. However, even though the book of Genesis shows a tone of life long morals, Genesis also shows the different sides of humans. Genesis shows how human can be deceitful, evil, and disobedient to authority figures. But these traits with humans were rarely displayed by man, but mostly by woman. In the book of Genesis, woman are displayed obstacles and road blocks to these undermining and broad goals through God‘s plan . From the beginning of the book with Garden of Eden to the ending of the story of Joseph, women, as mothers and wives are typically portrayed disloyal, undependable mischievous or, just simply for their womanhood, and they frequently threaten to undermine God's will than men. This portrayal is done because women were not considered equal to man and man was the only thing that God intended to create. Women in Genesis were set as these archetypes that God wanted them to be, but in the narrative its they are shown otherwise.…

The agreement requires for Abram to leave his home and travel to a land that God would show him. The agreement was only for Abram, who also took his nephew and all the souls he was responsible for. If Abram fulfilled his commitment, God would make him a great nation, bless him, and make his name great. God would also, bless anyone that blessed Abram and curse those that curse him. Finally, because of Abram’s obedience, God will bless all people. This passage reestablishes the concept where man’s obedience before sets the stage for God to fulfill his portion of the agreement.…

Interpretation is everything when it comes to identifying a text. Readings of one verse "may vary, when in fact they regularly do much more - at times they clearly oppose or contradict each other." 1 Within the book of Genesis we encounter opposition and contradiction in every verse depending on a variety of factors. "...Religious or theological persuasions, or one 's place in history, society and culture" 2 can sway or change an interpretation of text. This being said, the popular and widely accepted interpretations are the ones affecting women and our population in general. The Bible is widely distributed and acknowledged, Genesis is known throughout the world and its social order. Even more so, the creation story is famous, it is mentioned in films, books, school and much more. The interpretation of this story is still additionally accepted, everyone knows the story of the apple and Eve. The impact this one story has on the institution of patriarchy, Phyllis Bird has a good representation : "A hierarchy of order is introduced into the relationship of the primal pair. Mutuality is replaced by rule. Patriarchy is inaugurated. . . . The rule of man over the woman, as announced in Genesis 3:16, is the Bible 's first statement of hierarchy within the species." 3 The potential for this verse to be used for oppressive should not be underestimated. Eve and Lilith, the women of Genesis are sexualized, sin ridden and seen as antagonists within the creation story. Let us see how the interpretation of this take has created societal norms for gender roles.…

    Dehumanization Of Slavery

Throughout the Deuteronomic history, the historian is writing to expose the reasons Israel was exiled. From the start they were instructed to live by the Law, and they would keep the land, whereas disobedience would lead to the wrath of God. Therefore, Israel’s history includes atrocious acts, such as the violation of the Concubine in Judges 19. The concubine left the home of her ‘husband’ and returned to the house of her father; after some time he came to “fetch” her back to him. The woman is the only character within the narrative who never speaks nor is given a clear identity. As noted in the preceding paragraphs, those who find themselves enslaved in the sex industry rarely ever speak for themselves, and receive new identities to remain bound to their captors. The lack of identity given the concubine, and identity stripped from the modern slave allows them to be seen as an object of momentary pleasure, rather than an individual created by the most Holy God, with divinely given value and worth. One of the messages of this passage is that people are not to be treated in this manner, and the blame of the situation should fall on the perpetrator and the one offending, not the woman. A Cambodian victim of sex trafficking…
