General psychology is a broad theoretical discipline that covers all the issues relating to psychology in its different fields. It is the most general field of knowledge; that is why it is not always easy to define its main characteristics. It is even more difficult to determine the achievements of general psychology. In fact, practically all achievements can be classified as the ones dealing with a specific field of psychology, while general psychology is the broadest discipline. In comparison to other branches of psychology, general psychology does not enjoy such a great popularity among scholars and researchers. The number of articles dealing with it is significantly less because scholars tend to offer different classifications of specific psychological issues. However, such articles still exist and in this paper I will focus on one of them, which was written by Thomas S. Parish and Jobyna J. Swenka. The title of the article is “An examination of general psychology as a foundation block in psychology.” An outline of the article will be presented and its major ideas will be discussed. I will also address the significance of the article and show why it is worth reading it. The most important questions raised by the authors will be considered.
