GM has established that employees are not as productive as historically in the shown with in the company. The company has taken the time to break down research to see how actively engaged the employees are at the company. The research below will include the background of the company of General Motors with their headquarters located in Detroit, Michigan, the impact unengaged employees, and recommendations for motivating employees. How does employee engagement truly impact the revenue of the company? Can it be prevented?
Employee engagement is a large part of what contributes to the success of a company. When productivity within a company begins to decline the first area a company should research is the satisfaction and engagement of the employees.
In the past two decades U.S. workers being satisfied with the company’s they work for it at an all time low. In a survey of 5,000 individuals only 45% of the individuals were satisfied and felt engaged at the current place of employment. This is down by 16% from the first year this survey was taken back in 1987. The problems arise when employees begin to become dissatisfied or unengaged. This type of unhappiness within the work place will lead to a lack of quality in production and loss of critical knowledge transfer (2010).

General Motors was founded on September 16, 1908, to little enthusiasm by critics. During the time when General Motors was first introduced 1,000 other companies were also trying to make a mark on the United States with vehicle production. Out of those 1,000 companies only 200 of the original 1,000 survived long enough to continue with business and reveal a usable model.
