Almost everyone Suffers from occasional depression with symptom like sadness, pessimism and low energy, it only when depression last two or more then it became clinical disorder which called major depression, it is important to understand if someone has a depression there actual physical change in the structure of the brain as well as produce level of important chemical go through transmitters.  
There are several types of depression and causes and treatment, the most common type of depression is the major depression, symptoms often include overwhelming, feeling of sadness, low energy, and feeling of worthlessness. The second type of depression, Dysthymia is belonging with a chronic condition with less severe symptoms than those with major depression although the milder in nature. Dysthymia last two year or longer, Adjustment disorder can occur in the after math of a sad or life transition or events like  death of loved one or the loss of a job. The period of unhappiness is normal but if the depression feeling continues for several months then diagnosis of adjustment disorder may be appropriate. 
Clinical depression has become one of America's most costly illnesses. Left untreated, depression is as costly as heart disease to the US economy, costing over $43.7 billion in absenteeism from work (over 200 million days lost from work each year), lost productivity and direct treatment costs. Depression tends to affect people in their prime working years and may last a lifetime if untreated. More than 80 percent of people with clinical depression can be successfully treated. With early recognition, intervention, and support, most employees can overcome clinical depression and pick up where they left off.
