Research Strategy: Improving Organizational and Cleaning Skills
Many people often encounter and have to find solutions to problems in their day-to-day life. These problems may be seemingly simple, like remembering to make lunch for the following day the night before, or they may require more attention, like finding a job. In my case, the number one problem that I face in my day-to-day life is keeping an acceptable level of cleanliness and organization in my home. In order to remedy this situation, I must recognize the problem, identify the causes, understand why it is important to fix the problem, and prepare a research strategy. In preparing a research strategy, I can utilize many methods of research, evaluate the information, and then implement the potential solutions to my problem.
Upon entering my home, it is no secret that it is disorganized and could use a good cleaning. Most, if not all, flat surfaces are covered in mail, papers, and other miscellaneous items such as scrapbooking supplies. Our clothing is scattered about in the closets and laundry room. The kitchen was never completely unpacked and we have many items still hiding in the pantry as well as sitting on the counters. With two large dogs, the dog hair collects rapidly and covers most surfaces, including table tops and furniture. Storage closets are unorganized and items that should be in the storage closets are sitting around the apartment instead. Most of this mess can be attributed to the fact that we do not go through our mail and papers often enough since most everything is done via the internet. Laziness and procrastination from both my husband and I also plays a large role, especially since we begin projects and do not complete them. We never fully unpacked and now, being busy with work and other activities, unpacking has become less of a priority. Lastly, we are used to the mess and, since we do not have visitors often, we do not feel the urgency to clean up everything.
