Legalization of Gay Marriage
In today’s society homosexuality is becoming more accepted. You see homosexuals coming out and feeling more comfortable in their skin and why shouldn’t they? They have no reason to hide who they are because they live in America where you have the freedom to choose. Being homosexual for most people is not a choice it comes from ones different genetic characteristics. Hollywood fully embraces homosexuality. I believe Hollywood has made an impact on most of America’s perception of homosexuality. Some people have become comfortable adopting the idea that legalizing gay marriage isn’t so bad. They also believe that it has nothing to do with how one walks, talks, or dresses but that homosexuals should be treated as equals because we are all human. It’s not hurting anyone and people are going to form their own opinions anyway. Homosexuals have the equal right to be married like everyone else. Keeping gay marriage illegal violates the Due Process clause of the Fifth Amendment, denying gays the right to marriage also denies them federal benefits such as healthcare, social security, disability insurance, and spousal benefits last but not least it throws away any possible benefits to society it could have. The recognition of same-sex marriage is a political, social, civil-rights and religious issue in many nations, and debates continue to arise over whether same-sex couples should be allowed marriage, be required to hold a different status (a civil union), or not have any such rights. In the Constitution there it is said all man is equal and should be treated so. This is a belief that was used to promote the equality of men and women and for the rights of African-Americans. This is a basis of American society as a whole as it does represent what we stand for.
