Gay Marriage in the United States is a very large, controversial issue. It seems come up in everyday life, from personal conversations, talks of religion, and may even define political debates. The thought of legalizing same sex marriage is one that, though many might agree with, the law rarely gets passed and put down due to religious conflict or governmental disagreements. However, in the United States, the legalization of gay marriage will not improve or strengthen the definition of marriage but will “complicate society and tradition”. This debate has been recognized by the public and is now becoming more controversial because of the growing relationship between people of the same sex. Same sex marriage should be legalized, as everyone has the right to love who they love, it is not the government’s decision.
All men are created equally, thus one man should not get treated differently due to who they love. The Article “A Theology of Marriage including Same-Sex Couples: A View from the Liberals”, offers a perspective of respecting the right for a person to choose who they love. As best said by Rogers and Kittredge, “We argue that the church should marry same-sex couples because it requires their testimony to the love of Christ and the church, and because it recognizes that same-sex couples stand in need of sanctification no less than opposite-sex couples do” (Rogers, Kittredge 51). Meaning that just because a person is one of a same-sex relationship does not mean they do not deserve the right to have a binding and legitimate bond with that persons significant other. [continues]
