Marriage in California is understood as a relationship between man and woman, therefore proposition 8 is not an attack on gay lifestyle neither does it take away the rights or benefits of gay domestic relationships. (Prentice) California law states, “domestic partners shall have the same rights or benefits of gay or lesbian domestic partnerships.” Because 4 judges in San Francisco overturned the people’s vote, we need to pass this amendment to restore the definition of marriage between male and female.
In the year 2002, two-thousand California voters passed proposition twenty-two addressing marriage between man and woman. If proposition 8 is not passed, teachers will be forced to teach their children that homosexual partnerships are the same as relationships between both male and female. The government should not be able to enforce who parents should teach their children about gay marriage. It should be a decision they make on their own without being forced to do so. The website gaymariage.pro.con.org states,” Gay marriage will lead to more children being raised in same-sex households which are not an optimum environment for raising children because children need both a mother and gather.” Girls who are raised apart from their fathers are reportedly at higher risk for early sexual activity and teenage pregnancy.”
Gay marriage does not only attack the children but it attacks those in the Church. Gay marriage conflicts with the beliefs and traditions of religious groups in the world such as The Catholic Church, Presbyterian Church, Islam, United Methodist Church, Southern Baptist Church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and many more. Allowing same sec couples the right to be married; churches again will be FORCED to marry couples against their will.
