There are many serious issues in America today that need to be in the spotlight and have full attention. To heat the statement “We should not devote our time and effort to gay and lesbian right, because there are more important issues that deserve attention.” I am disturbed. I believe that nothing seems to be more important than given. All people equality, acceptance, and freedom. Equal rights should be given to the gay and lesbian communities. There have been many mistakes threw out history regarding human rights such as slavery, race and gender rights, and rights for homosexuality. Gay and Lesbian rights should be at the top of the list of priorities. Prejudices’ is plaguing our culture, the discrimination against gay and lesbians are only encouraging people to further hate, and discriminate. Aren’t we the country of “freedom”? Where is all the freedom for the gay and lesbians? There is little the government has done to help protect the rights of homosexual people. Over the last thirty years there has been little movement in order to gain rights for gay and lesbians. The controversy over same sex marriage has been going on since the early 70’s and it has not made little progress. Today it is still one of the biggest controversy’s going on. While some state have made it legal for same sex marriage, the majority of all states are still holding firm that same sex is banned. Regardless of the laws, and controversial debates, Gay and lesbians are not going to give up this fight for all equal rights. Someday, there will be a nation that comes together regardless of all the differences because they will be more focused on the things each of us hold in common.
