  In order to maintain a society of growth and self renewal, an individual as well as organizations and institutions, must adhere to change with drive and direction while maintaining morals and a sense of purpose that will allow a society to change in a positive, progressive manner. “ In the ever-renewing society what matures is a system or framework within which continuous innovation, renewal and rebirth can occur” ( Gardner, 5).
Components that contribute to a functioning, prosperous society are :an individual’s motivation and contributions to better or improve themselves which would in return improve society; a society’s willingness to uphold responsibilities and be ready, prepared, and engaged in adapting to the future and the changes it will bring; and an organization’s ability to be flexible and to nurture self-renewing individuals into placements where they can asses and use their talents. “Nothing is more decisive for social renewal than the mobility of talent” (Gardner, 12).
Adapting to change is vital and crucial for a society to thrive and can enrich the life of an individual if the means of adapting are positive and freely embraced, provided the individual uses sober and rational intuition to affirm that the change is truly a change for betterment and progress not based on trends or manipulation’s . On the other hand, if one is incapable of self- renewal and has lost the motivation to even attempt to better oneself, the outcome could potentially be detrimental to that individual’s growth in multiple aspects of life. “ For self-renewing men and women the development of their own potentialities and the process of self-discovery never end “ ( Gardner 10). A person’s interests, goals, and motivations should not be depleted once you hit a certain comfort level in your life or encounter a certain setback.
