Disadvantages of Ipad in Education

Although the iPad has many advantages in the classroom, it also has disadvantages. The following disadvantages were noted by students and education professionals alike. * While Apple claims that it's price tag of $499 to $799 is affordable and modest, to the average student it is quite the expensive purchase. * School Districts are facing current budget cuts, how can they afford to supply iPads to every student? * Connection – if all students are concurrently connected to the Internet at the time, there are bound to be some connection errors. There has to be sufficient bandwidth to support a high volume of devices connecting to the internet at once. * Schools will have to train educators how to use the iPad in classrooms. Professors may not know how to teach using the iPad, therefore they will have to be trained themselves to use the device properly in the classroom. * iPads are destructible, it is hard to protect them from the daily accidents that can occur shattered iPad * iPads lack a keyboard which make it very difficult to write long research papers * It is difficult to multitask on an iPad

* There is no USB port, making it difficult to transfer materials from one device to another * Not all textbooks are available electronically so many are still left to purchase traditional textbooks

Possible Concerns in Higher Education:

While the iPad brings new opportunities, students agree that it is not a replacement for the laptop. The iPad lacks the memory and the operating system of a traditional laptop, resulting in fewer features and the lack of ability to multitask. The iPad is a tool that promotes fun and interactive learning, however it is difficult to accomplish extensive research and write long papers. This proves to be the greatest downfall when used by college students, since papers are so common at this level of education. Therefore students are just left to add another device to carry in their backpacks in addition to the phone and personal laptop. Apple has introduced a keyboard that can be attached to the iPad in order to cater to these needs, however it still has not solved this issue entirely. In addition, the price of the iPad is a primary concern since many college students cannot afford it's rather large price tag. Some students still find that a tablet is important to have and instead of purchasing an iPad they purchase a similar tablet from competitors at a lower price. Furthermore, the disadvantages of the iPad weigh heavily in the debate of whether to bring iPads into classroom or not. If some of these disadvantages could be addressed and resolved, many more students and professionals would be willing to use the iPad to it's full educational potential. Perhaps, each generation of the iPad will resolve some of these issues and will make it more appealing to include the device in the educational curriculum. 7 Harmful effects of new Gadgets today  |

Here are seven ways technology and the high-tech lifestyle may be hurting you.

1. Computer Vision Syndrome

The human eye is not adapted for staring at a single point in space for hours on end. 2. Insomnia

Working into the evening face-to-face with an illuminated monitor can play havoc with your internal clock. Replace work with exciting stuff like video games after dark, and you have an even more potent recipe for a sleepless night. One study showed that playing a game involving shooting suppressed levels of melatonin, the hormone that's involved in regulating cycles of sleep and waking....
