What is Petroleum Engineering?

an engineering discipline concerned with the activities related to the production of hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil or natural gas.

considered as upstream sector of the oil and gas industry, which are the activities of finding and producing hydrocarbons.

What is Petroleum Engineer?

A petroleum engineer is involved in nearly all stages of oil and gas field evaluation, development and production. 

The goal of a petroleum engineer is to maximise hydrocarbon recovery at a minimum cost while maintaining a strong emphasis on reducing all associated environmental problems.

Petroleum engineers are divided into several groups:

Petroleum geologists find hydrocarbons by analysing subsurface structures with geological and geophysical methods; 2

Reservoir engineers work to optimize production of oil and gas via proper well placement, production levels, and enhanced oil recovery techniques.

Drilling engineers manage the technical aspects of drilling exploratory, production and injection wells. It also include mud engineer who manage the quality of drilling fluid.

Production engineers, including subsurface engineers, manage the interface between the reservoir and the well, including perforations, sand control, downhole flow control, and downhole monitoring equipment; evaluate artificial lift methods; and also select surface equipment that

The issue displayed in the article is the legality of the construction of the Dakota Access oil pipeline through Native American lands in North Dakota. The author and I believe and claim that the construction of the Dakota Access oil pipeline should be halted. The reason I hold these views is that the pipeline neglects the protection of the future and the past. This is supported by the fact that the pipeline is planned to be constructed through a river where 17 million people obtain their drinking water from, posing a threat to millions if the pipeline were to break. In addition, if the pipeline were to be built in this location, it would neglect the treaty rights given to the Native Americans when they initially settled there.…

Regimes oppress Native-American people from their land and culture through the idea that natives are uncivilized and must be controlled. These atrocities have been justified by the belief that Native Americans are inferior to the white anglo-saxon prodestant man. Allthough these beliefs are reluctant into modern society, many still hold on to ideals that invoke racism and hate. The North Dakota pipeline has been a primary example of modern day repression by corporations for absolute economic interest. This event demonstrates the constant struggle that Native-Americans physically, and emotional face since the birth of our nation.…

Inventions like the steam engine, cotton gin, telegraph, assembly line, and the internet. These have all led to incredible economic growth and have created and revolutionized entire industries which in themselves allowed the tapping of endless market potential. It is the contention of the energy sector that hydraulic fracturing will soon enough be added to that list. However, while it is in our nature to cultivate a higher standard…

Petroleum Engineering is basically drilling and producing petroleum and natural gas in an efficient, safe and profitable way. They also do a lot of planning, which includes looking for yields in production, cost of drilling and production, and simulating future oil field performance using computer modeling techniques. In addition, they design and apply recovery processes and equipment to optimize oil and gas production. Furthermore, they supervise the drilling of other operations in the field. Moreover petroleum engineers can specialize in drilling, completions production operations, reservoir engineering, and economic evaluations. Job duties include keeping up with developments in the field, conducting research, performing economic evaluations of oil reservoirs, optimizing production, planning drilling and production operations, and performing initial reservoir evaluations.…

In 2015 the United States produced over US over 7.66 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2015 (cia1). This natural gas was the largest source of electric energy in the country (eia1). The US energy information administration currently estimates that two thirds of this natural gas was extracted from the ground using a process known as hydraulically fractured. This is when hydraulic fluid is injected under high pressures into wells deep underground in order to cause the underground rock formations to fracture and release natural gas deposits.…

Suzanne brings out a moral stand point through Standing rock. The points she makes regard the fact that the Sioux tribe were able to stop construction of the oil pipeline. The tribe sued the U.S. Army corps of engineers. This issue invoked an ugly feeling of mistreatment towards Native Americans from the past. Various protesters surfaced. The tribe’s lawyers argued that the pipeline could contaminate their water and desecrate burial grounds. The pipeline illuminated issues of racism and climate…
