Functions of the schedule of reinforcement in organization
The schedule of reinforcement must be has in an organization. It is very important to any of the organization. Schedule of reinforcement is also an important component of learning process. A schedule of reinforcement is normally a rule stating that an organization’s instances of behavior can be reinforced. An organization’s behavior is acquired whether is fast or slow can be determine by the schedule of reinforcement. In addition, the strength of the response of an organization also can be determined by using the schedule of reinforcement. There are many benefits of the schedule of reinforcement to an organization. There are 2 types of reinforcement which are positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement. Positive reinforcements are any of the effect of behavior or matters that can affect the probability to be increase of the behavior’s occurrence. The positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement mostly is to strengthen the behavior and increase the probability which that it will happen in the future again. The schedules of reinforcement are divided into 2 groups. Firstly is continuous reinforcement which means by continuously reinforcement, the behavior which is desired by an organization is reinforced with every single time it happens. Secondly is partial reinforcement. In partial reinforcement, there are four types of schedules. There are fixed ratio, variable ratio, fixed interval and also variable interval. Probably the best-known function of the schedule of reinforcement to organization settings is behavioral modification or behavioral contingency management. Reinforcement theory is an important explanation of how people learn behavior. It is often applied to organization settings in the context of a behavioral modification program. Although the assumptions of reinforcement theory are often criticized, its principles continue to offer insights into learning and motivation in organizations. The schedule of reinforcement which applied in organization represents an effort to bring about a change in employees’ performance by changing the antecedents and the consequences of that performance. By specifying an objective or a quota, and the reward if an objective is received, it is hoped that performance will increase.
Firstly, continuous reinforcement schedule occurs after every occurrence of a behavior. Nowadays, there are some organizations applied the continuous reinforcement in their management. The main function of the continuous reinforcement schedule is used to teach any new behavior, or to increase the performance of an activity in organization. For instance, if a salesman is making five sales calls per day, and if the desired performance is ten calls per day, the salesman should be reinforced when he makes six calls, and then seven calls, eight, nine, and finally ten calls. Reinforcing every improvement is more likely to get the salesman from five to ten calls per day, than is the offer of reinforcement when, and if, he ever gets to ten calls per day.
Another function of the continuous reinforcement is to eliminate undesired behaviors in the fastest way. In reality, employees tend to slacken in their work over long periods of time; thus, continuous reinforcement strategies are implemented to sustain employees’ desire to finish their job. This reinforcement strategy in organization suggested that must be continuous coercion and control of employees; they must be directed always on what to do. Hence, what are needed are strict and authoritarian managers. With this strategy, it functioned as the eliminator of the cessation of work. However, the employees are not the mechanical objects, if this continues, more and more of them will resign. Putting emphasis on the human nature, if the management lets the employees freely use their imagination and creativity in their jobs, they derive satisfaction from their work, hence, high productivity...
