The main responsibility in a management position is the four functions of management planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. A manager is required to use all four of these functions to achieve the companies’ goals maintaining a competitive edge in the industry. The plan of action requires a manager(s) directing their team to accomplish a common goal within the organization. Directing a business’s development must be done in a controlled in an efficient manner in order for the business to succeed in its vision and goal. These four functions of management helps the business succeeds in a prepared approach and acceptance must be understood about the functions regarding the connection with the business structure (Bateman, Snell, 2009).

Planning
In the management process the first function is planning. The planning process makes the distinction unsuccessful manager or a successful manager. To attain the business’s goals planning includes rational thinking through the goals of the business, and coming to a decision on what needs to be accomplished. Planning is a procedure while planning for future activities and growth, much like a plan to predict issues, and deciding on the actions to avoid issues and beat the competition (Bateman, Snell, 2009).
According to Petco (2011), “Pet co’s vision and mission statement is to best promote, through our people, the highest level of well-being for companion animals and to support the human-animal bond.” Employees at Pet co are dedicated to the highest level of care and support to the four legged family members and their human companions. Pet co employees must abide by the companies values along with the goals and objectives of the company. The quality in product represents the outcome of completing what are accurate, respect, value, and teamwork to reach the goals within the company.
