Acknowledgement The project work on numerical motor protection relay unit in Coke plant, Tata Steel has been a great learning experience for me. It provided me an opportunity to apply my theoretical skill sets in a real world problem. Being a novice in the area of steel making the project could not have been successful without the encouragement and backing provided to me by various people at different stages of the project. First of all I would like to thank Mr. N.K.Bhalla (Iron making electrical maintenance) for his inspiration and support which energized me to start working on the project with utmost enthusiasm and had been the driving force to successfully accomplish the assigned task. The project could not have been completed without the auspices and guidance provided to me by my guide, Mr. Ankur Gandotra (Manager, IEM, Coke plant-2). I would extend my heartiest thanks to him for providing me an opportunity to work on the problem and for his cognizant instructions which helped me smoothly sailing through the project. He is the person whom I always turned up to, whenever in doubt, and he made sure to bring me out of the adverse situation.

Finally, I would like to thank all the staff of Coke plant II who provided me the necessary support throughout my project.
