Riordan Network and Telecommunications
Riordan’s current system consists of a VOIP/data router and 35 IP phones at the San Jose location and an identical setup in the Hangzhou, China location only with 40 IP phones. The Pontiac, MI, and Albany, GA locations do not indicate the use of IP phones thus the regular PSTN phones must still be in operation. While the reliability and security of using normal telephone services are the unquestionable benefits of the service over VOIP however, VOIP can be both secured and reliable with added measures taken like adding UPS (uninterruptable power source) and using a SRTP (Secure Real-Time Transport) protocol. Along with your VOIP service you get free features that you would otherwise incur a free for using PSTN like call waiting, call forwarding, conference calling.

Centralizing voice and data network management as well by implementing integrated access device for all users so that their fax, computer, and phone line are all connected. An added feature that will be used as another advantage and save Riordan lump sums of money in traveling expenses for meetings is the point to multipoint video conferencing option. This will help by connecting the video server at corporate headquarters to a router with a private WAN link that connects to another router at the branch offices that send the signal through a multipoint control unit.
The new infrastructure should include media gateways, media gateway controllers, 140 IP telephones, specialized video view stations, plus management application, and messaging software. To provide sufficient bandwidth for the added services such as video conferencing and for future expansion it is recommended to upgrade the LAN's backbone to 1 gigabyte Ethernet and supply each workstation with a 100 Mbps connection at each location.
