• Background info: This book has been said that it is a product of horror she felt in losing her children. Marry also lost her mother when she was young. The trauma and hopes of raising a corpse is transferred in the book to Victor. Which the author re lives the experience. Or maybe it is her own contribution/ redistribution of the literary themes and obsessions of the Romantic/Gothic period. These periods show the importance of the nature, the individual and their quest, isolation, the supernatural and its warning of destructive powers when dealt with. Gothic period shows more of the imperfect human and the mercy of far more powerful enemy. The idea of her came from Lord Byron’s idea to have a ghost competition in which she did not have any ideas. Until a dream which she saw a "pale student of unhallowed arts putting together the hideous phantasm of a man."

• Concept of belonging: “Frankenstein” showed the way of belonging through Victor and the monster. Victor is shown with a sense of belonging in the first chapters with his family on how close they are together with Victor describing his family members especially relationship with Elizabeth (Victors adopted sister, who later gets married with Victor). This is evident as Elizabeth sends a letter to Victor to see how his going and his wellbeing as he was busy studying and he tries to protect his family after the death of the monsters 1st killing. Next Victor’s belonging is shown through his love of science through his love of the human creation and what gives spark to life: this is described in the first chapters of the book too. From Frankestein’s soul: I will achieve …I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown powers and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation. With this overwhelming ambition of “being God” has lead to consequences which he had to choose between his family or his creation. During his time study of human creation he was lonely and isolated from being away from his family before he met Mr Waldon a science professor, which you could say he did not belonged. Because he changes from this sweet and kind Victor into a “sick man” who becomes totally absorbed with his scientific obsession and ignores his family and friends as he falls out of reality creating and dealing with the monster. This is evident as he chooses to protect the human race more than his family when the monster got angry after Victor wouldn’t create a companion for the monster. Victor created a human creation like no other which in joy to him but in the end destroys him and his family. The main impact on belonging is shown with the monster who Victor created with human characteristics is not belonging in the society as numerous times the monster has been rejected. The most significant rejection was Victor’s rejection of his wonderful creation was a terrifying disaster as the so called monster looked ugly. "For this I had deprived myself of rest and health. I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart." From the moment the monster moved its limbs, Victor quickly ran away from it as he was terrified and abandons the monster. This rejection is strong one to the monster as Victor is like a father/mother to the monster as Victor is the creator and therefore did not belong to his own creator. Another rejection incident is with the Delacey family, the monster was watching the Delacey family as he was learning to speak and learning the human senses. When the monster tries to introduce to the family, the women fainted and the boy chased the monster away. Sending the monster in endless rage. Doesn’t belong to his scientific studies anymore after the he created his monster
