Frank Oz: The Puppeteer
Frank Oz directs movies and is a voice actor that makes Puppets talk. He was born as Richard Frank Oznowicz on May 25th, 1944 in Hereford, Herefordshire, England located in the United Kingdom. Frank Oz is married to Robin Garsen and has four children. His parents were also Puppeteers from England; his parents were refugees from the Holocaust. His mother was Flemish and was of Roman Catholic religion and his father was Dutch/Polish of the Jewish religion. His father was a soldier in the Dutch Brigades and helped to fight the Nazi’s. When Mr. Oz was five years old his family moved to Oakland, California in the United States. He went to High School and a Community College in Oakland, California and worked with the Vagabond Puppets Production Company in Oakland. His biggest challenge was how he broke all rules of acting by making Puppets act like humans. Frank Oz for 30 years created puppet characters like: Ms. Piggy, Fozzy Bear, The Cookie Monster, Bert, and Grover on Sesame Street; he directed the “Little Shop of Horrors” with the man- eating plant, and he is the voice of Yoda in the “Empire Strikes Back/ Return of the Jedi” movies. I learned that in some countries people can be mean but coming by to America they can make more money, get a good education and become anything they want to be. Resources:
