Four Management Functions

      In business organizations the aim of most companies is to run smoothly and achieve the goals and objectives they have set forth.   Some goals may be increased production or higher quality service. In order to accomplish this there have been management concepts that have been developed and refined over the years to facilitate this process. There are four management concepts that help organizations manage effectively.   The four functions of management are to plan, organize, lead, and control. These four basic functions of the management are outlined in the following paragraphs.

      The first function often referred to as the base function is to plan.   The plan is the foundation of management or the base that the other areas rely on. Planning requires an administration to assess where the company is currently, and where they want it to go or what they want to achieve. According to business dictionary planning is “the process of setting goals, developing strategies, and outlining tasks and schedules to accomplish the goals (para1). Once the goals are in place they must determine an appropriate course of action and implement it to achieve the desired results or objectives. Planning is continuous as the company grows and faces challenges because there are both internal and external factors that affect a company. Depending on the situation, a company may have to change directions or a course of action to accomplish its goals. This type of preparation, arrangement is known as strategic planning. In strategic planning, management analyzes inside and outside factors that may affect the company.
