Explain the four factors that produce changes in population size. Which factors are affecting the population size in the video? What do you predict will happen to the nutria population after all the land is depleted of the nutrias’ food resource
1.Birth Rate – The number of births of a sample size per 1000 people per year. Birth Rates are affected by many factors such as the ability to receive health care, family planning, the use and availability of contraceptives, governmental policies, economic growth, education, social and cultural views, and the use of abortion.
2. Death Rate – The number of deaths of a sample of per 1000 people per year. Death rates are caused by the lack of availability of food and water, lack of education, disease, lack of medical care, suicide, car accidents, crime, war, and government entities.
3. Immigration – People entering a country for various reasons. Pull Factors – A country offering incentives for immigration, education, social and economic factors.
4. Emigration – People leaving a country for various reasons. Push Factors - Social and economic factors, natural hazard, education opportunities, political instability, war, and others.
Which factors are affecting the population size in the video? What do you predict will happen to the nutria population after all the land is depleted of the nutrias’ food resource?
Birth rate is affecting the population size in the video. Nutria can have over 40 babies per year and at 6 months they are mature enough to reproduce. That means that the babies can reproduce. These animals are reproducing at a high rate and becoming extremely over-populated very fast. One of two things will happen, either they will deplete the food source and starve to death or they will relocate to another area and adapt to the different environment.
