Abstract
For this project we will describe the characteristics of each element of the Marketing Mix as they apply to the new Xbox Kinect. We will also discuss why each of the 4-P, price, product, place, and promotion decisions would be important when marketing your selected product.
The Four Ps of marketing includes product, price, place (distribution) and promotion. Product includes the brand name, the quality, packaging, style accessories, functionality, etc. In regard to price decisions, they include pricing strategy, seasonal pricing, price flexibility, volume discounts and wholesale pricing. Place or distribution include market coverage, distribution centers and order processing. Last but not least, promotions which include, advertising, sales promotions and promotional strategy. All of these areas are important in the marketing of the new Xbox Kinect as there are other products on the market which could cause competition for the Kinect such as Wii and Playstation. These are products that have been on the market for a long time and already are household names as well as trusted products with many consumers. So it will be important to price, market, distribute and promote this product well in order to sell it.
The Xbox team has launched this new product called the Kinect which will permit controller free gaming, motion capture, video chat, voice commands and a host of other functionality. It’s called the Kinect.
What makes the Kinect such a great product is that the motion captures and controller free gaming allows a whole host of new options to be opened up; one of them being an immense opportunity for new fitness games. Although fitness video games aren’t anything new, what is new is the fact that you won’t have to be holding a controller during your workout the way you have to do with a Wii or Playstation.
