      This organization was established in 1972. It mission was to award grants for hands on research and practice initiatives. The focus is on making affordable basic healthcare available to everyone.
      The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is the nations largest charitable organization that is centered directly to the health care issues. The foundation support public agencies, universities and public charities that fall under tax-exempt sec. 501 (c) (3) of Internal revenue code. The foundation does numerous projects throughout it organization. Every year the foundation gives out “approximately 1,000 grants totaling hundreds of millions of dollars to hospitals and research institutes.” (RWJF) “In 2009 Robert Wood Johnson awarded approximately $350 million dollars in grants that fell within the seven program area.”(RWJF) The average sizes of grants awarded have been “$1,200 to $50 million dollars with time periods ranging from one month to five years. The RWJF (Robert wood Johnson Foundation) does provide annual reports containing its complete list of grants awarded each year. You have the ability to apply for multiple grants at one time as long as it for different projects. You do have to submit an application form in for applying for certain grants. Unsolicited grants such as Building human Capital, Pioneer, and vulnerable populations program areas have to submit a brief proposal form instead of an application. The entire process can take anywhere from four to seven months before its approved.
      Clinical Scholars is one of the most successful foundation programs. It provided young physicians the opportunity to study on non-clinical topics such as management, economics, etc. They felt it made them better rounded and able to deliver a better quality healthcare in their chosen field.
