This movie was a sad, but enticing movie that started off with the main character Forrest Gump sitting on a bench waiting for a bus, and telling his life story to total strangers that are sitting next to him waiting for there bus. Forrest Gump is a slow individual that lived an interesting life. Forrest was not a normal individual, but lived more of a normal life then others in the movie did. He was a happy individual that never let anything, or anyone come in the way of him. There were only two things in life that he loved, Jennie and his mother, then when his child was born, his child. The movie starts off with Forrest sitting on a bench, waiting for his bus while eating chocolates, telling his life story to the individual next to him. Forrest Gump is on the bus bench, and starts talking about his childhood. As a child, Forrest had difficulty walking, so his father put metal leg braces to hold his week legs in place so he could walk. He was constantly made fun of, and none of the little children wanted to even talk or sit next to him. It shows how the town saw him as a weird dumb child. He was always getting picked on and chased after school. But one day when on the bus, he sat next to a nice young girl called Jennie. She saw through the image that everyone sees, and saw a nice caring young man. It is viewed that Jennie meant a lot to him in his life, because every time he did talk about Jennie, he talked highly about her. In a sense she was his angel, so throughout the movie Forrest Gump Glorifies Jennie, even though she was not always an angel. Forrest then grows up with Jennie being great friends with her. One day while walking home, he was getting chased by bullies, so he tried to go as fast as he can with those leg braces on. Then suddenly they broke and he

In Fannie Flagg’s esteemed novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café, characters and lessons from both the past and present inspire our main character, Evelyn Couch, to make changes in her life. The epitome of middle-aged misery and menopausal depression, Evelyn learns lessons from the stories and advice given to her by characters such as Mrs. Virginia ‘Ninny’ Threadgoode help her lift the veil of gloom cloaking her and aid her in reestablishing her dreams and goals – such as gaining a healthier and happier marriage with her husband, Ed, or losing all her unnecessary pounds. What sparks her journey to this better life, one she can actually look forward to at night rather than considering suicide, are the stories of a small Alabama town in the 1930’s and the residents who fight for happiness in a difficult time; Evelyn takes these stories of times past and uses the morals and advice given by Ninny to face each of her problems and attack every day with confidence. The transformation Evelyn embarks on is a sign of how strong she, or anyone, can be when their head is in the game, and as we see Idgie still selling her foods at the end of the book, we conclude that the past can live on even into the present.…

The story plays off in a series of decades in the life of Forrest Gump, a slow-witted yet athletically prodigious man from Alabama that had an influence on the later half of the 20th century in the United States. Forrest as a child was bullied and had rough times growing up; his relationships were limited by his lower intelligence and compromised social skills. His mother Sally Field played a very big role in his life: teaching him, looking after him and furthermore helping him understand the true way of life. Forrest had an IQ of 75, and was not admitted into public school until his mother slept with the principle. Due to a crooked spine, Forrest was forced to wear leg braces that made it difficult for him to walk. Although Forrest was bullied he had many obstacles growing up. He was a very talented runner, football player, served in the United States Marine Core, man of his word and had a very loving and caring personality. Forrest had a positive influence on a number of people’s lives growing up such as: his friends in the Marines, Jenny the girl he grew up with and later the mother of his son, and also his mother Sally.…

The two films I am going to get into depth with and compare is The Academy award winning drama Good Will Hunting, and also another Academy award winning film Mrs. Doubtfire, both starring the legend Robin Williams. In both the films Robin Williams plays an important supportive role and proves that he can make a difference. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon also play great lead and supporting roles where we can see the characters grow and have a great motivational connection with one another. Both films give a great theme, with support, family and relationships being a main focus. Each movie has characters going through struggles and later in the end overcoming them. A lot of lessons can be learned in each film, and many people can relate to them. Good Will Hunting has characters who deal with loss, abuse, and lack of self-confidence. Mrs. Doubtfire has family troubles, separation, and trust issues involved as well. Both movies are easily relatable and comparable to each other as well.…

In chapter 5 of our book, it discusses aspects of cinematography, which included character blocking and film space. Film space calls attention to aspects of the film that the filmmaker wants the viewer to pay attention to. The way the shot is framed, is done to move the attention of the audience to a specific person or object within the shot. Blocking has to do with the location of the character within the frame. The placement of the characters can give them more importance, and can let the audience know a lot, about who is superior. Film space and blocking are both aspects of cinematography. The framing structure/distance, film space, shot duration, and lighting are all part of the overall cinematography. All of these things can determine the feel of a film. Reservoir Dogs is a film that is heavily based on the dialogue. Tarantino definitely has his own scriptwriting style. Most of the film takes place in a warehouse building, with the men going in and out. Besides the flashbacks that occur due to the non-linear structure of the film, the majority of the film takes place in a single room. Aside from the strong dialogue, what makes the film so unique and helps support its dramatic narrative, and advance its themes are the cinematography and blocking that was used in the film.…

    1) Will hunting was an orphan. As a child he was moved from foster house to foster house and during this time he didn’t receive proper moral development. He was alone and probably acted out by breaking things, hurting other kids and talking back but this got him punished. In the movie he explains that he would get abused by his foster parents, he would get cigarette buds put out on his skin and probably got a lot of verbal abuse. This could’ve resulted in his relationship issues and his need to feel cared for. Sean outlined Wills problem by coming to the conclusion that the reason he hangs out with the friends he does is because they care for him and they have his back. As a child he felt like he didn’t have that therefore he’s filling the need now. He broke up with his girlfriend that loved him very much because of the traumatic events that have happened in his childhood. As a child being moved from house to house not having one family messes up their intellectual development. As soon as he felt comfortable in his home and felt that he was happy in this new home he was pulled away and brought into an entire new atmosphere. This caused Will to push people away after time to avoid them leaving him and leaving him hurt. He leaves before they can, hence why he left Skylar.…

Unconditional love ties back to the human experience, because in life everyone experiences love, whether it be for family, friends or even a significant other. The theme of unconditional love in Forrest Gump is developed through time-lapses and emotional and intensifying sound effects during the “Peas and Carrots” scene to show the love that Forrest had not only for Jenny but to everyone he had encountered throughout the film.…

    Sexism In Forrest Gump

Mr. Hancock the school’s principal informs Mrs. Gump that Forrest will need to attend a school for special kids instead of attending public school. Upset with this news Mrs. Gump asks if there’s any way Forrest could attend the school since it was only a mere five points under the standard. Mr. Hancock responds with, “Is there a Mr. Gump, Mrs. Gump?” Mrs. Gump then replies, “He’s on vacation.” This dialogue seems to elude that Mr. Hancock is taking advantage of Mrs. Gump’s circumstance. Since Mrs. Gump’s purpose is to better the life of her son throughout the film it leaves her no other choice other than to have sex with Mr. Hancock. The tone in which Mrs. Gump speaks suggests she does not want to have sex with Mr. Hancock but is so desperate that she concedes. “Your Mother sure does love you son”, confirms that Mr. Hancock abused his power as a principle to capitalize on Mrs. Gump’s desire to have Forrest lead a normal life. When Mrs. Gump has sex with the principal it shows men who watch the movie that it’s okay to use power to have sex with women, even if they don’t want too. This exemplifies how women are mistreated by men and only serve as an object to please…

Due to the cars, the style of the clothing, and the retro shoes we can tell this story takes place in the eighties. Forrest always wears a blue plaid shirt in the first scene of each age transition. During his encounter with President Kennedy he uses the lavatory and while washing his hands we see the pictures of Marilyn Monroe, a photo of the Kennedy brothers, toothbrushes and a bar of soap. This implies scandal to the squeaky clean reputation of the two brothers. One other example is the newscast of the hurricane when Forrest is working his shrimping boat. The reporter is in front telling the information about the hurricane, then in the center is the wreckage of all the damaged boats, and finally in the rear is Forrest on his shrimping boat, entering right as the newscaster says only one boat survived the hurricane. In the running scene, the viewer sees a rugged man running across town in tattered clothes and bare legs. Another change throughout the scene is that of Forrest’s hair, and beard grow significantly showing that he no longer cares for his appearance. The wide shots in the running scene show the majestic natural settings across America. We also see some beautiful and simplistic landscape, which is in many ways similar to the character of…

In the beginning of the film, Jenny is the angel of a little girl who gave Forrest a place to sit on the bus to school. They grew together, learned together and were the best of friends till high school. As young adults however, their lives took very different paths. Forrest went to college, and joined the Military which sent him straight to Vietnam. Jenny became a flower child and began a drug filled fast and loose lifestyle. Through it all, Forrest loved Jenny with his whole heart. Jenny's name was spoken by Forrest often. On several separate occasions in the movie, Forrest witnessed Jenny being harassed by men. It never took more than one split thought and Forrest would be handling the situation with his brawn, defending Jenny. Not once did Jenny seem appreciative of Forrest's bravery on these occasions. It wasn't until Jenny had hit rock bottom and was contemplating suicide that she came crawling back to Forrest who was a millionaire by this time for owning ‘Bubba Gump Shrimp CO'. Without a single question, Forrest took her back. Finally happy, living the life he so desperately wanted Forrest and Jenny made love. The very next morning, Jenny caught a cab away from Forrest without as much as a note! Gump, heartbroken, began his multi cross country run for “no particular reason”. Years since the morning she left Forrest, Jenny sees him on the news for his running while she is…
