Abstract

This project consist of two parts: the description of the education and the analytical part. The first part contains the development and evolution of education throughout time: the history of education. How education is an important issue and what happens in our every day’s lives. It implies the existing types of education another ways of educating someone, the education system around the world and in Mauritius, the advantages and disadvantages of the education system. While the second part is an essay type question. It discussed about the preparation of students for the world of work by the school.

Definition
Education can be defined as acquiring skills, knowledge, values and principles. Education in its broadest sense happens all the time for everyone. It is part of everyday life. In traditional societies, children are educated through being with and learning from their parents and other adults. In modern societies we have special institutions called schools and colleges to provide formal education. A better definition of education that aligns with how many psychologists and other cognitive scientists talk about learning is "cognitive cartography,” the mental mapmaking. Providing a proper definition of education is complicated by the fact that there is not a clear general agreement about what is important for being and becoming educated.

History of education
Supposedly every generation, since the beginning of human existence, somehow passed on its stock of values, traditions, methods and skills to the next generation. The history of the curricula of such education reflects history itself, the history of knowledge, beliefs, skills and cultures of humanity. Providing literacy to most children has been a development of the last 150 or 200 years, or even last 50 years in some Third World countries. In what became Mesopotamia, only a limited number of individuals were hired known as scribes to be trained in its reading and writing. In that time only children of the rich persons, scribes, physicians, and temple administrators, were schooled. Most boys were taught their father's trade, girls stayed at home with their mothers to learn housekeeping and cooking, and to look after the younger children.
