Our class just got done reading the book Flowers for Algernon and we also watched the movie. The main character of the book and movie was Charlie Gordon. Charlie was a mentally-disabled man that wants to be intelligent like everybody else. He works in a factory, Algernon the lab mouse also under went the same surgery that Mr.Gordon went under.
The book and the movie were alike in several ways. First, in the story he starts out using ink blots and he gets mad because he doesnt see anything in them so he races Algernon the mouse and he loses. Second they want him to get surgery for his I.Q. and they are still working on it because charlie is going to be the first human they perform it on. Last, they have charlie race the mouse and he loses and charlie gets mad.
Like wise the movie and the book were also different in many ways. To begin with he searched for his mom in the movie. Also, he went to a murder conviction and spoke in front of the doctor. Finally, he didnt get to interact with the mouse in the book but he did in the movie.
I liked the movie better than the book. The book was boring and the movie had alot more details then the book did.
A life lesson that can be learned is the love can hurt at times. I think he fell in love in three days because neither his mother or anybody else had ever loved him. That is probably why he loves the mouse like the mouse loves him. He breaks Mrs.Kennen's heart when he tells her that he doesnt want to be with her.
The book and the movie had many similarities and many differences and both taught a lesson. They showed how true love works and told a heartwarming story.
