If you are serious about fishing as a hobby, and if you have extra cash to fund it, it might be better to consider buying a fishing boat. Having a fishing boat at your own disposal will give you all the time and places to go for your fishing expeditions.

Before going out to look for a boat prospect, it would be prudent to sit down a bit more to consider many things that will bring you to the right people and places for your search.

First of all, you have to take into consideration the intended uses of the boat that you want to buy. Is it solely for fishing or are you also planning to use it for family outings and other activities? This will help you determine the type, size, and features of the fishing boat that you want to own. Relative to this, you also need to know these common fishing boat types:

A. ski Boats

These are actually speed boats that are made for skiing or wake- boarding. You can use this boat for fishing as well, although they have limited storage and high costs. Ski boats range from 18 feet to 22 feet and brand new units are about $25,000.

B. Sailboats

Powered by nature, sailboats are propelled by the wind that hits their sails. These boats don't have mechanical propulsion systems like an engine or a propeller, although some types are installed with small outboard engines. Sailboats depend on certain conditions to make them navigate effectively. These include wind and current direction. They are also categorized into (1) Day Sailer, which doesn't have accommodation; (2) Cruiser, which has a cabin, a sleeping quarter and a kitchen; and (3) Racer, which is designed for racing and day-sailing. Sailboats prices range between $3,000 and $5,000.
