University: a New Adventure
I am the first person of my family to attend University, my parents are so happy that I am attending a University here in the United States. Nobody in my family has ever stepped foot in a college and I can now say that I am carrying my family’s name over that line by attending Barry University. I came to the United States two years ago and I was determined not to become another Hispanic worker, but a Hispanic that came to the United States for the right reasons and become a better person than when I got to the U.S.A. I also consider myself as a role model because I just do not want to be the only person in my family to attend college. I want my little sisters who also came to the U.S.A to follow in my foot steps and become somebody and do something with their life. Because were we come from there is no opportunity to excel in life, all there is, is just to work and have no future. My goal is to graduate in Biology and enter the dental program here in Barry University. My goal also has some road blocks like in paying for school, it never crossed my mind that school was going to be so expensive. But like it is said I am investing on my future, so when I start my family they could have a better life than the one I was given. when I was in Miami there are a lot of people who are so excited for me when I got accepted to Barry University. They would tell me that I have accomplished a lot for just coming from my country which is Peru, in so little time. also there were people who always told me that Hispanics only came to the United States, to work for minimum wage and that we did not have no future in this country. That made me feel sad because the people that were telling me these things were my own Hispanic co-workers and other Hispanic people that I met in Miami-Dade community college.
