Do you miss having fireworks during Christmas' Eve and New Year's Eve? Well, I do. From the past few years, Christmases and New Years were quite boring, don’t you think? A lot of us seem to miss having fireworks during Christmas and New Year.

First let tell you where fireworks originated. It was originated in China 2000 years ago. According to the Chinese culture, fireworks is said to drive evil spirits away or bad luck so the chinese people put of up fireworks display during weddings, especially during New Year's Eve. Many Filipino-Chinese here in Davao City practice the same culture. But as we all know, fireworks are very dangerous. So, the city government lead by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte together with the Vice-Mayor Luis C. Bonguyan and 26 City councillors, implemented the City Ordinance No. 060-02 series of 2002 or the Fire Cracker Ban happened on Oct.15,2002.The City Ordinance states that “AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE MANUFACTURE, SALE, DISTRUBUTION, POSSESSION OR USE OF FIRE CRACKERS OR PYROTECHNIC DEVICES AND SUCH OTHER SIMILAR DEVICES AND THE EXPLODING OF FIRECRACKERS OR OTHER SIMILAR EXPLOSIVES WITHIN THE TERRITORIAL JURISDICTION OF DAVAO CITY. Violation of such ordinance are being penalized, For the first offenses, a fine of One Thousand Pesos (P1,000.00) or imprisonment of not more than One (1) month but not less than twenty (20) days, or both fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the Court; For the second offense, a fine of Three Thousand Pesos (P3,000.00) or imprisonment of not more than Three (3) months but not less than One (1) month, or both fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the Court. For the third offense, a fine of Five Thousand Pesos (P5,000.00) or imprisonment of not more than Six (6) months but not less Three (3) months, or fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the Court”. This is why fire crackers are prohibited here in Davao City and our Christmas' and New Year's Eve are quite boring because a lot of people follow...
