This research study will seek to investigate the problems that hinder the effective procurement process as part of supply chain management in organizations with KIM as the case study. The general objective of the study will be to establish the problems hindering effective procurement process in organizations. The specific objectives will be; to determine how poor evaluation of suppliers affect the supply chain management, to establish whether lack of coordination between purchasing department and other departments affect the procurement process, to determine the vitality of TQM in the supply chain process and also to find how E- business affect the procurement process.
The research design will involve use of descriptive research design, which will involve the use of questionnaires and interview. Since the population is heterogonous the research is going to apply the stratified sampling method. Data will be collected using both primary and secondary methods of data collection. Questionnaires and interviews as well as reviewing already done publications will be used in data collection. Data collected will then be analyzed by use of quantitative methods such as SPSS, and other statistical methods. Results will then be presented using charts, tables and graphs.
1.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The term supply chain management was first used by consultants in the late 1980s and then analyzed by the academic community in the 1990s. Supply chain management links all the supply interacting organizations in an integrated two way communication system to manage high quality inventory in the most effective and efficient manner. Supply chain management embraces a multitude of policies, procedures & organizational structures.
