Week 9 Final Project: Personalized Nutrition & Exercise Plan

    A major health problem that I have been living with throughout the past five years is diabetes. When I first found out I was diabetic, I experienced a couple of the tell-tale signs. The first symptom was that I was constantly thirsty. It felt as if I could never get enough to drink. Along with my incredible thirst, I had the need to urinate about every ten minutes. Those two symptoms, along with the fact that my father was diabetic, lead me to see a doctor and get tested. After diabetes was confirmed, I was prescribed medications which I took for years. I did change my diet a little bit, never drinking regular soda again. However, that was pretty much the extent of my plan, or lack thereof. The fact that I had no medical insurance, and no money to pay for the costly supplies out of my own pocket; I lived blind to the effects that diabetes was having on my body. Recently, I found a great and affordable family doctor who has been working with me and my limited budget to find a good middle ground plan for keeping my diabetes controlled. My doctor insisted that I take a couple of classes with my wife, taught by a nutritionist and an endocrinologist (a diabetic doctor). That class, in combination with this nutrition course has provided me with the information I have needed to come up with a nutrition and exercise plan. This plan that I have come up with will help me to keep my diabetes under control. It is also something my entire family can commit to for a healthier lifestyle.
    One incredible obvious fact that I know I need to change is the amount and kinds of carbohydrates I consume on a daily basis.
