Film Summary: The Hobbit

The Hobbit Plot Summary The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien takes place in Middle Earth during the time before the adventures of Frodo in the Lord of the Ring Trilogy. It tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, A hobbit who just wants to stay home and relax, but is dragged into the conflict of helping an old wizard by the name of Gandalf and some dwarves to kill a dragon. Bilbo must fight against Smaug, a dragon who hoards treasure. First, Gandalf and the dwarves appear at Bilbo’s house to try and convince Bilbo to come with them to help kill the dragon. After days of persuasion and promises of riches beyond his wildest dreams Bilbo agrees and goes with the group to help kill the mighty Smaug. Along the journey to kill Smaug Bilbo and the gang run into murderous ogres, giant spiders, and Gollum-a hobbit that was driven mad by the powers of the ring explained in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Bilbo takes the ring from Gollum during the journey, and finds out that the ring has the ability to turn the wearer invisible which proves invaluable along the journey. During the trek through a dark forest infested with giant spiders Bilbo also finds a magic sword that he uses just in the nick of time to defend himself from the spiders; after the encounter Bilbo keeps the sword and names it Sting. Finally, Bilbo and the gang sneak into the lair of Smaug, unfortunately, the dragon is much tougher than expected and it is only when the weakness of Smaug’s armor is found do they kill the great
