I believe all movies are, in their own way, good. Basically all movies are created
by following certain areas or elements. These basic areas are as follows: writing, story,
drama, editing, sound, acting and cinematography. We could say that for the most part, all
these elements go hand in hand, every movie, usually, has certain equilibrium between the
elements. Some movies may focus on different elements in which make that particular movie
more appealing for a certain group than others. For this paper I have chosen to critique “The
Matrix”. The Sci-Fi thriller was created as if we were in a computer program with very distinct
effects not yet seen in other movies at the time it came out to theaters.
“The Matrix” is one of my all time favorite movies and I would like to critique its elements or
areas on this paper. All movies have a script, and like all movies, the script is revised over and
over prior to start filming. “The Matrix” wasn’t brought out in theatres until 1999, but yet one of
the first screenplays was written in1996 and later revised in 1997 (IMDB).
The story of this movie is told from a few different angles because the story and the plot seem
to go hand in hand, as the plot changes, so does the narration, but doesn’t seem to have any
specific narration from any one of the characters. The story is first seen from the point of view of
Thomas “Neo” Anderson (Keanu Reeves). As the movie evolves, we see a small twist when two
of the character roles are reversed. Towards the end of the movie, we see another twist when the
same two characters switch roles once again. I will discuss more in detail about this twist later in
the paper.
Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) who is the first character we are introduced to is watching a man,
Neo, from inside the matrix, hoping that he will be the One, meaning the one who will save their
world. While this is happening in the movie, we have no clear reason why she is... [continues]
