Beginning of Feminism
The term Feminism can be used to describe an academic discourse, or to describe a political, cultural or economic movement aimed at establishing more rights and legal protection for women. Feminism involves political and sociological theories and philosophies concerned with issues of gender difference, as well as a movement that advocates more gender-specific rights for women and campaigns for women's rights and interests. Feminism is based on the high evaluation of women as human beings. It has sprouted up as the point of culmination of various movements for woman’s rights led by many eminent thinkers. Feminism has been defined in various ways, but it is agreed that it encompasses a set of beliefs, values and attitudes centered on the high evaluation of women as human beings.
Feminist strives hard to set up the recognition of the common humanity norms both for man and woman. There should not be separate law, custom, code of conduct for man and woman. Feminists recognize that only women have been oppressed and therefore support liberation from oppression of every kind, such as racism, class privilege and innumerable discriminations. Feminism represents intellectual, ethical and political position that can be exposed by both women and men.
Feminism attempts to locate, change and reshape cultural practices that are responsible for suppression of women. By attempting such an endeavour, feminism focuses on analyzing and examining the suppressed status of women in a socio- political movement whose objective is equality of rights, and claiming for equal status. Feminist regards women as being disadvantaged in relation to men politically, emotionally, culturally, economically, socially and domestically. They want to reverse this position.
