I am the perfect candidate for the Fashion Institute of technology because I am inquisitive; I am always craving more knowledge no matter what the topic - I am a leader, I enjoy coming up with fresh, new ideas and I am an intensely passionate person. Though, unlike many other FIT applicants, I haven’t always had a “passion for fashion”. Growing up, I wanted to be an Architectural engineer. It wasn’t until someone close to me gave me my first Michael Kors handbag my 8th grade year that I began to develop the passion I have now. Handling this bag was when realized my obsession with high-end fashion was only beginning. I was amazed at the production work put into making the merchandise. Of course the beauty of fashion is interesting, but what…

The day I opened that catalog was the day that my mind went into a world win spiral. So many ideas flooded my brain that I went out and bought my first sketch book to begin on this fashion journey. I started out drawing a pair of straight leg white dress pants, followed by a beautiful silk pink button up blouse. It was simply stunning. To follow this outfit I would dress it up with a pair of pink pumps and a pair of earrings, it keeps it classy but yet remains stylish. It’s what you call business elegant. The outfit screamed “WEAR ME!” I went to school the next day and showed many people my work and they all said that they were in love. They all wanted me to draw to a design for them to. It shocked me how many people actually liked my work, but I was more than happy to do it.…

Although costume and fashion are too often considered the same, they are two different concepts. Costumes are in history and set as a foundation for revival and contemporary fashion. It expresses the way of life of those living in particular places, time periods, and the social classes, in example the elaborate dresses the Queen wears. The kind of lives that people are expected to live are reflected by the costumes worn. The origin of costumes is usually due to the expectations their society sets and what materials are actually available. Costumes set as a symbol of holidays and festivals, such as Santa Claus during Christmas, the Easter Bunny for Easter, and vampires for Halloween. Revivals in fashion are constantly referring to historical costumes for inspiration through its ideas, designs, textiles, art, etc. Fashion is a contemporary word used to define what is popular by the majority of the public. Newest and latest trends are often associated with fashion. It is desired by society to provide personal expression and send a message. What characterizes fashion is constantly changing and evolving. People usually associate fashion to designers, haute couture, celebrities, New York, Milan, London, and prestigious magazine Vogue. Fashion has a reputation to re-establish one’s personality, status, and style.…

My love for art and fashion has developed since my childhood. I had taken continuous external art lessons (such as charcoal drawing and traditional Chinese painting for years) in China and joined Art Club and Photographic Society after I came to Singapore. During my tour to Paris and Rome, I was first time stunned by the cities’ perfect fusion of fashion and its ambience. Just like what Grace Codington said in the documentary September Issue, I always kept my eyes open during the trip, because “inspiration for fashion is everywhere”.…

I worked hard in school to get the grades I needed to attend LIM college to enroll in their Visual Merchandising Bachelors Program with a concentration in Styling. I was then employed at Old Navy and Journeys where I worked as a sales associate to gain a better understanding of the many jobs in the fashion industry. To gain even more experience I created my high school's very first fashion club where we put on a now annual fashion show. I helped host the show and style the models while also handling behind the scenes aspects. I, later on, shadowed local designer, Ms. Evy Woods helping her prepare her fashion show at the Black Congressional Caucus. This event is where I really got to see what a real fashion show entails, which made me fall in love with fashion all over again! As of today I am currently applying for internships and volunteering for New York City fashion week to get even more experience. Eventually, I hope to attend LIM's guest speaking events to hear from people in the industry who have gone through the same process as me. I have done quite a few things to help me gain experience in the industry but I have so much more to…

My interest in the Fashion Marketing program at Parsons, was innited in college during the time we were starting to study the different fields of marketing. Since I was little I’ve always had a very big interest in the fashion world, observing the different trends and how every country has different styles is fascinating for me. My biggest role model fashion wise is Oscar de la Renta, I identify myself with him because we come from from the same country where the fashion industry can still be considered in diapers. He has known how to overcome the many obstacles that have been presented to him throughout his career, obstacles like the lack of support at the beggining, or the credibility he had to win through his career.…

Life is not easy and they say it never goes as planned, but it gets a lot easier if one has a plan and knows where one wants to be the future. “Fashion” is my passion and I plan to make it my destiny as well. Fashion according to me is a unique sense of style which everybody is born with, but few are able to express. We all recognize when we see something fashionable, but very few amongst us have that unique ability to produce something that is Fashionable or that which will catch others eyes. It is this ability that I wish to acquire and hone and sharpen with your help. I am from India, a nation with a population that exceeds one billion, where the economy is growing at one of the fastest rates in the world and where the people are just discovering that there is more to life than just food, water and shelter. I grew up hearing that clothes are a mere necessity, but I believed that Fashion is not just about “looking good”, it is about “looking great” and feeling good & confident about it. India has varied cultures, ethnicity & topography which results in a wide verity of Fashions within its borders, it is a sort of Fashion fusion with bright colors, different cuts, varied materials and different traits. India is not called a sub-continent for nothing. With a growing educated & empowered middle-class that aspires for the best in the world. India is emerging as one of the major players in the world of fashion. It is in this emerging nation that I aspire to be a globally recognized Fashion Designer with my own Brand & standing and what better way to start on that journey than being associated with you.…
