Guy Montag’s character archetypes change in the story. He is a hero, explorer, and dark hero. At the beginning he loves his job and doesn’t think when he burns the books. Towards the end he realized that books could teach him about what happened in the past. He is brave because he tried to save the old woman when she refused to leave her books pg. 36. Another time where Montag was brave is when he ran away from the firemen and police after they found out that he had books. This shows that he is brave because even though the whole town was looking for him, he still tried his hardest to run away. He was brave because they had a new mechanical hound from another town and he still tried to run away even though he knew that the mechanical hound always found what it was looking for. Montag is also an explorer because he is searching for the truth about books Pg.76. He wants to know what he is reading and what it is about. He wants to learn what happened in the past. Montag is also a dark hero. He is a dark hero because he is breaking the law by having books in his house and reading them. Montag’s characteristics change from the beginning to the end. At the beginning he didn’t think twice before he burned books because they believed that they should be burned. After talking to Clarisse and what happened to the old woman, he started to want to read books and wanted to quit his job because he didn’t want to burn them anymore.
